Student Research: Anqi Peng / The Lower East Side

Anqi Peng poses in the Ninth Street Community Garden

Anqi’s research began with an interest in the art and gallery scene on the Lower East Side, but as she explored the neighborhood and talked to gallery owners and activists, she found that the history of art and activism in this neighborhood was intertwined with that of both the Chinese community and the community garden movement, among many other things. At the Ninth Street Community Garden, she shared the history of this space as an important face of community-building in the neighhorhood.
